170 million new jobs by 2030: who will employers look for in the AI era: WayForPay study

Experts from the Ukrainian payment service WayForPay analyzed data from international research and told us which specialists will be most in demand in the era of AI and fintech.

AI is not killing professions, it is transforming them

According to the World Economic Forum (WEF), by 2030 the global economy could see a net gain of approximately 78 million new jobs (170 million will be created, 92 million will disappear).

The main trend is that AI does not automate entire professions, but individual routine tasks within them. For example, artificial intelligence can quickly collect data and generate tables for a financial analyst, but the interpretation of the result, verification of authenticity and responsibility for business decisions remain with the person.

According to a PwC study, employees with AI skills already receive an average salary premium of 62%. Technology takes away the most mundane parts of the job, leaving creativity, communication, and professional judgment to humans, making experts even more valuable.

FinTech Engineer and Cybersecurity

According to the WEF ranking, among the professions that will show the fastest growth by 2030, the leading positions are occupied by Big Data Specialists, FinTech Engineers, and AI and Machine Learning Specialists.

Fintech is at the intersection of several major technology waves: digital payments, open banking, cybersecurity, and embedded finance. Therefore, the market increasingly needs FinTech Engineers - engineers who simultaneously understand financial infrastructure, APIs, regulatory requirements, and are able to apply modern AI tools.

At the same time, the demand for cybersecurity specialists (threat intelligence analysts, DevSecOps engineers) is growing critically. 94% of leaders in this field consider AI to be the main factor of change. The technology helps to detect anomalies, but at the same time it is used by attackers to scale attacks. In fintech, where the price of a mistake is money and trust, the value of such specialists will only grow.

New roles: AI controllers and the problems of junior specialists

Experts note the emergence of a separate labor market for people who will check and monitor the operation of algorithms: AI Governance Managers, Responsible AI Specialists, Model Risk Specialists. Their task is to explain why the model made a specific decision, whether it is biased, and to be accountable to regulators.

At the same time, the AI revolution creates an unexpected problem for junior positions. Traditionally, beginners have learned on simple, routine tasks, which are now being automated the fastest. Because of this, companies will have to radically restructure the training system, because without classic training for beginners, the market will soon experience an even greater shortage of senior specialists.

Regarding the popular profession of prompt engineer (a specialist in writing queries for AI), analysts predict that it will soon become a basic digital skill that everyone should have, similar to the ability to use search engines or spreadsheets.

Ukrainian context

According to the NBU for 2025, 64% of surveyed institutions in the Ukrainian financial market are already using AI or machine learning.

For Ukrainian fintech, demand will gradually shift not only to developers, but also to data engineers, payments engineers, fraud analysts, AI product managers, and risk specialists. A separate driver for the development of new competencies will be the implementation of Open Banking in Ukraine.

"The real value will be in specialists who are able to turn AI into a safe, manageable, and profitable business process: they understand the industry, see the risks, verify the result, and know where the decision should still remain with a human," WayForPay analysts summarize.
