African Union countries have asked Ukraine to create an analogue of "Diia" for them. According to Zelenskyy, this could bring the state additional funds
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky told journalist Lex Friedman in a podcast that some African Union countries have asked Ukraine to create a public services service like «Diia» for them. The Ukrainian side agreed and will begin implementing the project after the war with Russia ends.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky told journalist Lex Friedman in a podcast that some African Union countries have asked Ukraine to create a public services service like «Diia» for them. The Ukrainian side agreed and will begin implementing the project after the war with Russia ends.
As Suspilne reports, Zelenskyy believes that this cooperation could become «a source of funds for Ukraine».
«It also eliminates all opportunities for future corruption, because there are no personal contacts with representatives of government bodies or other structures. Everything is done via phone or any other device. And I think we do it very well. We are the best in Europe», — the Ukrainian president said.
Former Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba previously said that Ukraine seeks to restore relations with Africa, which were lost in the late 1990s. This was facilitated by the country’s preoccupation with domestic problems and the need to focus on returning to Europe, to which Ukraine belongs geographically, historically, and culturally.
In February 2023, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Transformation of Ukraine Mykhailo Fedorov said that more than 5 countries in the world want «Diia». These are several European countries, as well as countries in Asia and Africa.
In the fall of 2024, President Zelenskyy announced that Ukraine is ready to provide African countries with security technologies, as well as share experience in countering Russian disinformation and pressure, in particular from the fighters of the private military company Wagner. Other areas of cooperation that Kyiv is ready for include: ensuring food security, education, mining, digitalization, and the «Diia» application.
Fedorov: «We are philosophical about the fact that „Diya City“ is sometimes called an „IT collective farm,“ and we understand that there is a certain distrust of the authorities.»
