Fix broken formulas: Agent Mode in Excel becomes available on Windows and Mac

Agent Mode in Excel is an AI-powered tool designed to be a full-fledged partner. It supports multi-step workflows and can be interacted with using natural language. The tool makes changes directly in your workbook, so you no longer have to copy and paste suggested options.

Announcing the web version, Microsoft gave several examples of how Agent Mode will help Excel users in their work:

• Workbook creation: you can generate new content directly in Excel, drawing on both existing table data and web search results to add relevant context;
• Scenario modeling: you can conduct what-if analysis for revenues, budgets, or forecasts, as well as model complex scenarios with adjustable parameters;
• data analysis: the tool generates analysis of large data sets, detects anomalies and highlights trends using formula-based analytical methods;
• Formula generation: fixes broken formulas and creates dynamic calculations that link data throughout the workbook, along with explanations for complex calculations;
• Data visualization: Creates pivot tables, charts, and dashboards—all through natural language interaction. Generates native Excel objects that automatically recalculate and update as the source data changes.

Agent Mode in Excel entered public preview in September. Based on feedback from testers and those using the web version, Microsoft has made a number of improvements to the final version of Agent Mode.

Most notably, Agent Mode is finally available in Excel for Windows and Mac. Because the tool is built right into Copilot, users can quickly find it and get started without any learning curve.

Microsoft has also integrated web search into Excel's agent mode, allowing the tool to pull relevant information from the web. Users can also use models from OpenAI (GPT-5.2) or Anthropic (Claude Opus 4.5).

By default, for agent mode in Excel, Copilot selects the best model for the user, but you can also choose to use a specific model for any query.

To use Agent Mode in Excel, you need one of the following licenses: Microsoft 365 Personal, Microsoft 365 Family, Microsoft 365 Premium, or a commercial Microsoft 365 Copilot license.
