«For ushering in the age of thinking machines, surprising and disturbing humanity, transforming the present, and surpassing the possible, the Architects of Artificial Intelligence have been named TIME’s People of the Year 2025,» the magazine’s editorial board noted.
The publication features two covers of the magazine, one of which features eight prominent figures from big tech sitting side by side high above the city. They include Meta’s Mark Zuckerberg, xAI’s Elon Musk, OpenAI’s Sam Altman, AMD’s Lisa Su, Nvidia’s Jensen Huang, Google DeepMind’s Demis Hassabis, Anthropic’s Dario Amodei, and World Labs’ Fei-Fei Li.
Journalists reported that the cover is «a tribute to the famous 1932 photograph showing construction workers on a steel beam 800 feet above the RCA Building in New York.»
«Thanks to Huang, Song, Altman and other titans of artificial intelligence, humanity is now hurtling down the highway, unabated, toward a highly automated and highly uncertain future,» Time said.
Recall that last year, Time magazine named Donald Trump as its «Person of the Year,» after he regained the White House as the US president. In 2022, the magazine chose Volodymyr Zelensky and the «Spirit of Ukraine» for the Ukrainian people’s resistance to Russia’s full-scale invasion.
