6 days, 3,000 songs and minus 22,000 calories: IT guy breaks 10-year record playing Dance Dance Revolution
Szabolcs Csepé, a gamer and IT enthusiast from Hungary, broke a record that had stood for almost 10 years by playing Dance Dance Revolution for 6 days, or 144 hours.
Szabolcs Csepé, a gamer and IT enthusiast from Hungary, broke a record that had stood for almost 10 years by playing Dance Dance Revolution for 6 days, or 144 hours.
He danced to more than 3,000 songs and burned more than 22,000 calories to break the record of 138 hours 34 seconds set by American Carrie Swidecki in 2015, according to the Guinness World Records website.
The 34-year-old gamer, who works in the IT engineering industry, has already broken several gaming records. In 2021, he already set the record for the longest video game marathon, playing the game Naruto (28 hours 11 minutes 32 seconds) and the puzzle game Tetris Effect (32 hours 32 minutes 32 seconds). And in 2023, he set a record for a 90-hour gaming session in Gran Turismo 7.
Szabolcs has been playing Dance Dance Revolution for almost 20 years. But setting this record was a real challenge for him.
According to him, it was the most physically exhausting experience, especially due to the constant fatigue in his arms and shoulders without stretching. In addition to physical preparation for the marathon, the record holder conducted serious training with a small support team, and also developed a clear plan for providing his body with food and water.
"An additional challenge was to independently manage and document all the actions of the witnesses and their time allocation; in fact, before, during, and after the record-setting attempt," the gamer noted.
