A Ukrainian citizen has launched a social project — a map of voice stories from around the world. How does VoiceDot work and what is its goal?
A Reddit user shared his social project, which he launched on the anniversary of the large-scale invasion. Its goal is to give people the opportunity to be heard without having to “speak out.” According to the author, the voice can convey what the text cannot, and anonymity adds a certain freedom. Most of the users are Ukrainian, but there are also those from other countries, for example, a guy from a market in Thailand advertised his fruit.

VoiceDot is a map of voice stories from around the world. Anyone can leave a short message about a place, a feeling, a change; others can listen.
“The idea is simple: to remind us that we can still hear each other. The outside world is not always under our control, but how it changes us from the inside is up to us,” the project website says.
How VoiceDot works
To be heard, you need to record a short voice message, choosing an emotion: joy, sadness, anger, peace, etc. The voice will appear on the globe where the person is. Each emotion has its own color, so countries and cities take on the shades of the voices that come from there. Right now, Ukraine is mostly in a tone of sadness.
“This is not a startup pitch. It’s more of a social art project — an attempt to give people the opportunity to be heard without having to ‘speak up.’ The voice carries what text simply doesn’t: hesitation, warmth, fatigue. And anonymity takes the pressure off of sounding a certain way,” said a Reddit user named Strong_Dragonfly_972.
According to the developer, there are already many people from Ukraine — mostly talking about the start of the war, as well as many from Thailand.
"There's a man from Morocco who just told us what war is and how it starts. There are people who just sing songs or tell us who they are and what they do. And there's also a guy from a market in Thailand who was advertising his fruit," the AIT guy added.
Aitivets began developing VoiceDot on February 13 and launched it on February 22. He noted that half of the code was written using AI.
About plans
"There is no full-fledged localization of the interface yet, but translation via the API is already working (the button[Show txt]): if someone speaks an incomprehensible language, you can instantly translate it into English. The plans for cloning the original language include translation on request into any language, taking into account background sounds,” the developer shared.
In the comments, they advised posting a Copyright statement, something like "the copyright to the audio belongs exclusively to the respective authors, and that they grant the right to publish only within this site." To which the author of the project replied that he would add it.
The IT guy is also thinking about monetization, and asked Reddit users if it could be done.
"The computer will watch my back for me." A Ukrainian IT guy has developed a solution that "saved" his back while playing the guitar. What makes it interesting
