An American-Italian manufacturer has unveiled a fully autonomous electric bus. When will it start carrying passengers?

American May Mobility and Italian Tecnobus presented a joint development at the CES 2025 exhibition — a fully autonomous electric bus for 30 passengers, which may appear in use as early as next year.

«Our partnership with Tecnobus shows that we are serious about expanding access to public transportation and reducing congestion in cities,» May Mobility CEO and founder Edwin Olson is quoted as saying on its official website.

The autonomous minibus will be accessible, including for passengers in wheelchairs, and ready for use in urban public transportation, corporate campuses, airports, and local communities.

The vehicle is fully electric and equipped with replaceable batteries, which minimizes downtime and associated energy loss, and it reaches speeds of up to 45 miles per hour.

Using May Mobility’s patented Multi-Policy Decision Making (MPDM) technology, the first autonomous minibuses are expected to be ready to roll in the first half of 2026, with large-scale deployment planned somewhat later.

MPDM technology uses artificial intelligence to interpret and learn from data in real time, adapting to new, complex and even unpredictable driving conditions.

May Mobility is an American company developing autonomous driving technologies, and Tecnobus is an Italian company manufacturing electric minibuses for public transport.
