Anduril Industries, a US company, and Rheinmetall, a German concern, have announced a strategic partnership. Their collaboration will focus on the joint development and supply of autonomous air systems and advanced propulsion systems for Europe.
In a press release, Anduril Industries notes that the partnership with Rheinmetall aims to strengthen the continent's defense capabilities by ensuring rapid production and widespread deployment of modular systems.
The partnership covers three key areas, with plans to expand in the future:
The integration of the European version of the Barracuda , a low-cost cruise missile, into the Rheinmetall Battlesuite digital control system will provide European militaries with an affordable and flexible tool for a wide range of missions.
Incorporating the European variant of the Fury , a high-performance, multi-role autonomous aerial vehicle (AAV) into Rheinmetall’s digital framework. The Fury is designed to operate as part of manned-unmanned aircraft teams, allowing countries to configure their own control systems and operational constraints.
Investigating the feasibility of solid rocket motors for European use, using Anduril's new manufacturing approaches. This direction should ensure reliable supply of propulsion systems and industrial redundancy.
"This is a different model of defense cooperation, built on co-production, operational relevance and mutual respect for sovereignty. Together with Rheinmetall, we are creating systems that can be rapidly produced, widely deployed and adapted as NATO missions evolve," said Brian Schimpf, CEO of Anduril Industries.
Armin Papperger, CEO of Rheinmetall, added: “By integrating Anduril’s solutions into Rheinmetall’s European production base and digital control system, we are creating the foundation for new types of autonomous capabilities that are fast to produce, modular and meet NATO’s ever-changing requirements.”
Late last year, Anduril Industries announced that it would partner with OpenAI to create artificial intelligence for counter-drone systems. The company currently uses its own software, Lattice AI, which has some AI solutions.
Anduril is also working with Meta to design, build, and deploy a range of integrated XR products that will provide soldiers with enhanced perception and allow them to intuitively control autonomous platforms on the battlefield.
