Social network Bluesky has introduced a new privacy feature that allows users to protect their posts from unwanted virality. Thanks to the new option, posts in the Discover recommendation feed will only be visible to the account’s followers.
This was announced by the platform’s development team in its official announcement. To activate the restrictions, users need to open the application’s settings, go to the «Privacy and security» section, and enable the option «Ask apps to hide my posts from algorithmic recommendations.»
The developers noted that they aim to give users more control over their own content and privacy online.
«We understand that not everyone wants to go viral. Sometimes you post only for your followers. This is one of several updates we’re working on to give you more control over your online experience and help you find your people,» they said in a post.
At the same time, Bluesky emphasizes the technical specifics of the platform. Since the social network operates on the basis of the decentralized AT Protocol, third-party applications and clients can independently decide whether to take this goal into account when forming their algorithmic feeds.
Decentralized platform Bluesky is actively developing content personalization and privacy tools. Previously, the network launched its own custom algorithmic feeds and moderation tools that allow users to independently choose content filtering rules.
