Apple explains that it is obliged to comply with current legislation and regulatory requirements. Russian media report that previously such cases were isolated, but now restrictions have become widespread.
The blocking could affect tens of thousands of Russian users, who could lose access to their Apple IDs. Owners of Apple gadgets from Russia are already complaining about blocking, deleting profiles, and the inability to use services.
According to iPhone users, a message appeared in the account settings about the need to undergo additional identity verification and upload a passport photo. Without this, you cannot make purchases in the App Store, there are difficulties with access to Game Center, games and iCloud. Some are trying to untie devices from blocked accounts to create new ones.
Apple is also tightening control over smartphone shipments to Russia through other countries where the company does not officially operate. Indian publication MoneyControl writes that official distributors have warned local retailers about high fines for activating iPhones using foreign SIM cards within 90 days of purchase. Particular attention is being paid to the new iPhone 17.
