Today, October 13, Apple will present new products called Welcome Home. The event will be dedicated to updating the line of smart home devices, the main novelty of which should be the long-awaited smart hub.
What is known about HomeView
According to preliminary data, HomeView will be a multifunctional smart home control center integrated with an updated Siri based on artificial intelligence. The device is expected to receive an A18 processor and 8 GB of RAM.
The hub will have a 6-inch square touchscreen and will be available in two configurations: for wall mounting and with a hemispherical stand equipped with a speaker and a flexible leg for tilt adjustment. The device will not have its own App Store, but will support basic Apple applications: Safari, News, Music, Reminders, Calendar, Weather, Messages, FaceTime, Photos and Mail.
Key features of HomeView include:
Control all smart devices in the home;
Displaying widgets (including from a connected iPhone);
Playing media files (music, video, photos);
Support for video calls via the built-in camera;
Recognizing nearby users using a variation of Face ID (to display personalized content, such as calendar or mail).
The estimated cost of the basic HomeView model could be around $350. It is expected to go on sale in mid-November.
Updating existing devices
In addition to HomeView, Apple also plans to update existing products:
Apple TV 4K: The design will remain unchanged, but the set-top box will receive a more powerful chip (presumably A19), 8 GB of RAM and the N1 chip to support Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6 and Thread. The update is focused on improving performance in games and the work of the new AI from Siri. A new Siri Remote with a built-in speaker for easier searching is also expected. The price will start at $199.
HomePod mini: As with the Apple TV, the exterior will remain the same, but new colors will appear (white, blue, black, green, and pink). Inside, the S10 chip and updated network modules will work. For complex requests to the AI version of Siri, the speaker will need to connect to a more powerful device on the network. Expected price - $129.
It is also likely that Apple will announce a new line of Apple Home Collection accessories, created in partnership with LG (smart doorbells, cameras, thermostats), but their release will take place at a later date.
Instead of a traditional large-scale broadcast, the company will likely limit itself to publishing videos and press releases, and will also hold a closed press event in New York, where journalists will be able to see the new products live.
Where to watch
Live broadcast on the Apple website and the company's YouTube channel at 4:00 PM Kyiv time on September 13.
