Artificial intelligence in FPV drones will make traditional electronic warfare useless: the military has named a new defense priority

With the advent of AI-controlled FPV attack drones on the front lines, traditional short-range electronic warfare will lose their relevance. Therefore, the main task for security system developers is to detect the launch of an enemy drone early.
This was announced by the Chief of Electronic Warfare of the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Maksym Skoretsky, during the professional meeting Kyiv cUAS Meetup in the innovation hub of the Moodro company. The event brought together representatives of the industry, developers and the military to discuss challenges in the field of electronic warfare and electronic warfare, as well as the practical application of anti-drone technologies in combat conditions.
Skoretsky explained that the evolution of drones will inevitably lead to the complete automation of the attack process.
"It's only a matter of time before a regular FPV drone will have one button. After identifying a target on the camera, the operator fixes it and then takes no further part, but lifts the next drone. Artificial intelligence will independently bring the drone to the target. At this point, detecting the drone itself will not give us anything, and any short-range electronic warfare means will be irrelevant," he said.
According to the head of electronic warfare, in such a situation, only a preventive approach can protect the infantry on the front line.
"The main thing at this stage is the detection of the start. The detection of the threat being carried out, its appearance simply on the battlefield. We may not know the exact direction, but we know that the threat already exists, and this gives time for preventive measures," Skoretsky concluded, calling on manufacturers to create early warning systems and raise radio reconnaissance assets into the air to expand the radio horizon.
Earlier, the head of electronic warfare of the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine stated that Ukraine has reached its peak in the use of standard electronic warfare means, and the capabilities of the Chinese market for the supply of basic solutions have already been exhausted.
