“They come back and pay off their debts”. Azhnyuk explained why the products of his mill tech startups bear the names of Ukrainian dissidents
The founder of startups TheFourthLaw and Odd Systems, Yaroslav Azhnyuk, explained why his companies' products, such as the Stus-7 and Horska-12 drones, are named after Ukrainian dissidents. According to him, this is a strong metaphor that appeals to the Ukrainian military.
Yaroslav Azhnyuk spoke about this in an interview on the YouTube channel «OPORA Speaks». He noted that this is a certain manifestation of creativity.
«In my understanding, business is a form of creativity, a form of art, perhaps. And on the other hand, it is something that appeals to Ukrainians, to the military who use these products. Stus, Lupynis, Kurbas, Horska, Teliga, Khvylovy. These are truly Ukrainians, dissidents, sixties, „Shooted Renaissance“, who were tortured by the Moscow regime», — Azhnyuk explained his vision.
Last year, Yaroslav Azhnyuk noted in a comment on dev.ua that TheFourthLaw and Odd Systems select the names of Ukrainian dissidents who are most associated with the product by developers. Thus, the repeater was named «Khvylovy-17» in honor of the poet Mykola Khvylovy, and the drone-interceptor «Gorska-12» in honor of the artist Alla Horska.
According to Azhnyuk, Ukraine’s enemies wanted «these people to disappear from history forever,» but now «they are returning and paying off their debts».
«In my opinion, this is a strong metaphor that is definitely liked by the soldiers who use these drones, these thermal imaging cameras. And it also motivates people, engineers, who join the team. And it also leaves some kind of mark in history. It seems to me that this is much more interesting than calling a drone a sparrow or some kind of swallow», — the entrepreneur added.
Earlier, Yaroslav Azhnyuk stated that autonomy modules will soon be installed on most drones. He noted that the TFL-1 module installed on the Lupynis-10 drone increases the efficiency of classic FPV by 2-3 times, and the cost of the product increases by only 10-20%.
Azhnyuk: «Over the past 2.5 years, private international investors have invested $20 million in Ukrainian defense-tech, and a total of $25 million has been invested in cat-repellent lasers (Petcube)»
