This is reported by TechCrunch with reference to a statement from Discord representatives. According to the developers, the problem has been affecting user accounts since May. The last 200 profiles were blocked just before the engineering team discovered and fixed the system error. The process of restoring all affected accounts is currently underway.
Discord explained that its automated security system works by matching uploaded content against databases of known dangerous materials. While the technology is designed to quickly detect illegal files, the company acknowledged the possibility of false positives. Normally, such content would be further vetted by a human moderator, but due to a technical glitch, the system instantly and permanently blocked affected accounts, bypassing human review.
X (Twitter) and Reddit users have begun complaining about lifetime bans for uploading images with square grid patterns. Some have suggested that Discord's AI moderator has become overly sensitive to such grids, as attackers have previously used similar patterns to mask sensitive (NSFW) or prohibited content from automatic detection filters.

Affected users are expressing outrage on social media, emphasizing that sudden blocks are destroying gaming communities and disrupting the workflows of those who use the platform for professional communication.
“We are working to improve security measures to ensure this doesn’t happen again,” Discord representatives assured.
