The idea belongs to entrepreneur and volunteer medic Howard Hunt. He drew attention to the problem with ambulances being transferred to Ukraine. Some of these vehicles are simply not designed for local roads and conditions near the front. They break down, so medics are left without transport to evacuate the wounded

So the team wants to take a regular large van, such as a Fiat Ducato, and modify it for use in difficult conditions. And the Dutch company NIXXEN will help strengthen the suspension, adapt the chassis and other parts of the vehicle to damaged roads.

And inside, they plan to collect several technologies that could be useful to military medics.

For example, the British company Molecular Products offers to install the Rugged Oxygen Generator (ROG). Unlike conventional oxygen cylinders, it does not require high-pressure gas storage and can operate without an external power source. According to the developers, the device provides oxygen for about 15 minutes.

And Velico is developing a way to turn donor plasma into a dry drug. Regular plasma needs to be stored frozen and thawed before transfusion. On the front line, where minutes can count, this creates additional difficulties. And the dry drug can be transported without freezing. However, this technology is still only being tested.

Estonian AO-Med, for its part, offers a digital system that will allow medics to record information about the condition of the injured and transmit it to colleagues during evacuation.

And Phoenix Denmark is being considered as a potential supplier of a special coating that should protect against debris and burning white phosphorus particles. In addition, it should reduce the thermal visibility of the car. Theoretically, this could make it more difficult to detect it using thermal imaging cameras.

The Battle Truck should also become a testing ground for medical technologies that startups want to test in real-world conditions.

"Essentially, this machine is a Trojan horse filled with products. We will bring it to Ukraine and prove that they work," Hunt explained.

For now, the Battle Truck exists only as a project. The team is looking for a suitable van, equipment and funding. According to preliminary estimates, about €500,000 could be enough for 3–4 such vehicles, although the final cost will depend on the configuration. The first vehicle is proposed to be assembled in Germany or Poland, and then sent to Ukraine for testing.

If the machine proves useful, the team hopes to receive an order from the Ukrainian military.

Earlier, dev.ua wrote that the Ukrainian company "Robotizovani Komplexi" is developing an armored module CASEEVAK for the ground robot "Murakha", which will evacuate the wounded. Inside the capsule, ventilation, heating, cameras and two-way communication are provided so that the operator can maintain contact with the soldier during transportation. The company is also working on additional protection against FPV drones.
