Bluesky mistakenly banned the US Vice President's account minutes after registration

On Wednesday evening, US Vice President J.D. Vance joined the new social network Bluesky. But almost immediately after its launch, his account disappeared. The platform explained that the reason was the intervention of automated security systems.
As TechCrunch reports, Vance's account was temporarily suspended after an automated filter that detects fake accounts was triggered. Bluesky noted that public figures, especially politicians, are often targeted by fake accounts, which is why the system reacted cautiously.
“Vice President Vance’s account was temporarily flagged by our automated systems that try to detect attempts to impersonate another person. We quickly restored access and verified the account so that users could confidently identify him,” the company said.
After the account was restored, a Bluesky representative confirmed the authenticity of Vance's profile and publicly welcomed him to the platform: "We are pleased to welcome the Vice President to the Bluesky community."
Vance's first post was about the U.S. Supreme Court's decision to uphold a Tennessee law banning transgender transition assistance for children, a topic that immediately became a hot topic on the platform, which positions itself as a space for open discussion without algorithmic pressure.
A little more about Bluesky
It is a decentralized social network created by Jack Dorsey, the former CEO of Twitter. Its model is built on an open protocol that allows users to have control over their feed and content. The Vance blocking incident has drawn attention to how new platforms balance security, moderation, and public reputation.
