OpenAI has begun testing a new feature called Writing Style for ChatGPT. The update allows the neural network to analyze a user's texts directly from their work services and automatically adjust its tone of communication.
The feature is currently available to a limited number of testers, writes BleepingComputer. As the initial setup window states, “ChatGPT will write with your voice, citing examples from connected apps.”
Users can share their text samples via Messaging, Documents, and Email. Supported platforms include Slack, Google Drive, Notion, and Gmail.
Once connected, the AI independently analyzes the specifics of written language and applies it when generating new texts. This eliminates the need to manually explain the desired tone or copy your own examples into the chat each time.
A similar feature was previously implemented by Anthropic in its Claude Styles service, where users could manually upload files or insert text snippets to create personal styles.
However, OpenAI’s approach goes further: ChatGPT is able to analyze the real-world context of communication in different environments. This will allow the model to see the difference between how a person conducts business correspondence in Gmail, communicates with colleagues in Slack, or writes reports in Notion.
OpenAI representatives have officially confirmed that the Writing Style feature is being tested, but the timing of its full launch for all users has not yet been disclosed.
