OpenAI has started limiting the number of paid ChatGPT accounts on one device and subscriptions paid for with one card. Who may lose access to their subscription?

ChatGPT users who have multiple paid accounts may lose access to some of them on their device. OpenAI has also started limiting the number of subscriptions that can be paid for with a single credit card. The company has not yet disclosed the exact number of accounts allowed.

This was reported by OpenAI. The company explains the restrictions by protecting user security and privacy.

They apply to paid ChatGPT Go, Plus, Pro 100, Pro 200, and Pro 500 plans. Free accounts, as well as corporate and educational plans Business, Enterprise, and Edu, are not included in the limit.

If too many paid accounts are used on one device, ChatGPT may display the message "Device limit reached." After that, you will no longer be able to log in to the corresponding account from that device.

Additionally, the warning may appear not only during login, but also later. That is, a user may successfully pay for a subscription, use it for a while, and then suddenly lose access.

According to The Decoder, the new rules may hit users who purchased several inexpensive subscriptions and switched between them to get more AI requests without switching to a more expensive plan the most.

Family members who pay for their own subscriptions with the same card, or people who share a computer, may also encounter problems.

For those who do not have enough capabilities of a single subscription, OpenAI advises purchasing additional credits or using available methods of renewing limits.

Previously, dev.ua wrote that starting in December, OpenAI plans to unify ChatGPT and Codex usage limits for Plus, Pro, and Business subscribers.
