Employees of many companies use AI tools to develop software for their own work needs. However, such applications, created "on feelings", are becoming a new format of "shadow IT". IT teams do not know who exactly develops these programs and what internal data they are accessing, which creates risks of information leakage and security vulnerabilities, writes The New Stack.
To address this problem, Cloudflare announced the release of Void , a set of three open-source tools. The main one is a platform that companies can deploy on their own servers.
How it works:
employees get a convenient place to publish and use their AI applications;
IT administrators gain full control: they see all created applications and manage access rights.
Interestingly, after acquiring the startup VoidZero (founded by Vue.js creator Evan Yu), Cloudflare decided to make Void completely free, although it was originally planned as a commercial product.
“We started working on Void before the acquisition and planned to make it paid. But now there is no need for that, so we have opened its source code!” said Evan Yu.
The release of Void is another step in Cloudflare's consolidation of its position in the web development world. The company recently acquired the creators of the popular Astro framework, the VoidZero command-line toolkit, and Deno (developer of the eponymous JavaScript runtime from Node.js creator Ryan Dahl).
