Microsoft has begun rolling out the beta version of its Copilot for Gaming gaming service. Beta testers can access the AI gaming assistant in the Xbox app on iOS and Android.
In an early version of the service, Copilot for Gaming can answer questions about games, provide links to additional information, and answer questions based on the user’s account and their gaming statistics, TechCrunch reports.
«In this early version of the mobile feature, you’ll be able to access Copilot for Gaming on a second screen without distracting from your main gameplay,» explained Taylor O’Malley, principal program manager at Xbox, of the launch of the assistant on iOS and Android.
After a user asks a question, Copilot analyzes gaming activity on Xbox, as well as public information from Bing, to formulate an answer. Microsoft says it’s working to add more personalization and more useful gaming assistance, such as coaching, to Copilot for Gaming.
Copilot for Gaming is available in English for players ages 18 and up. Players from a number of countries, including Ukraine, can try it out. Microsoft plans to expand the beta to other regions later.
Android users can download the beta version of the mobile app from the Google Play Store.
«If you have an iOS device and haven’t downloaded the Xbox for mobile beta yet, don’t worry—early testing of Copilot for Gaming (Beta) will also be coming soon to Game Bar on Windows PCs, and we plan to make it more widely available in the Xbox for mobile app in the future,» the developers said.
Microsoft previously demonstrated a prototype of Copilot in Minecraft, where players could ask the AI questions about how to craft objects. The developers envision Copilot seeing what’s happening on the screen and therefore being able to guide the player based on their actions in the game. The AI could also suggest where certain crafting materials are located in the game world.
