Discord will give parents more control over their children's spending on the platform

Discord has released an update to Family Center that gives parents more insight into their teens' habits. They can see their purchases, top interactions, and time spent on the app.
The update should help parents monitor whether their teens are spending too much time or money on Discord, TechCrunch reports.
Discord launched Family Center in 2023 with an activity dashboard that shows which servers kids have joined and a weekly email to parents summarizing their teens' activity. Now, the platform is expanding those monitoring capabilities.
Parents can now see the total amount of purchases made by their teen over the past week, including items from the Discord store and the Nitro subscription, which gives access to the service’s premium features.
They can also view the total time spent on voice and video calls in private messages, groups, and servers over the past week. Additionally, Discord will display the top five users and servers that teens have interacted with over the past seven days.
Discord is also adding new parental controls to the app, with settings that only parents can change. They can now control who can send teens private messages and whether sensitive content should be filtered. Parents can also manage data privacy settings for teens, determining how Discord uses their data, including whether to show them personalized ads.
Discord also said that when teens report content on the platform, they now have the option to report their actions to a parent or guardian. However, Discord said it would not disclose the specific content in question and encouraged teens to discuss it directly with their parents.
