Discord will be indexed in Google: messages from public servers will become available in web search

Discord has announced a major change to its public communities. Content from these servers will now be indexed by search engines, allowing users to find answers to questions directly through web searches without having to join servers via a special link.
As noted in the company's official blog, the new features will be rolled out gradually throughout November and December 2026. The changes will apply exclusively to large open servers that have more than 1,000 participants and meet certain activity criteria.
Starting November 16, 2026, all public servers will have their own web pages. They will display not only a general description of the community, but also automatically generated summaries of active discussions from public channels.

The main change is expected in mid-December: user messages will start appearing in search results. The developers emphasize that for security reasons, user names and avatars will not be displayed next to messages in search.
Platform representatives explain this step by the desire to make useful information, such as technical instructions, developer guides, or tips for gamers, more accessible.
“Previously, bulletin boards and forums were great for hosting extended, structured conversations. Today, many of these have moved to Discord servers. This has led to valuable information being locked away in conversations, inaccessible to the wider internet. We want to fix that,” product manager Kelsey Duncombe-Smith said in a statement.
Server administrators have already received management tools that allow them to select channels for indexing or completely disable this feature in the settings. Users can also prohibit the publication of their messages in the privacy settings. Interestingly, due to legal restrictions in the EU, the UK and a number of other countries, this feature will be disabled by default for users, and it is completely blocked for teenagers.
