By 2030, 40% of employers plan to replace people with AI: which professions are at risk over the next 5 years and are IT specialists at risk?

The World Economic Forum (WEF) has published its annual Future of Jobs report with predictions of how AI will impact the global labor market during 2025-2030.

For reference

The WEF report is based on a survey of over 1,000 employers, collectively representing over 14 million employees in 22 industry clusters and 55 countries around the world.

  • 77% of hundreds of large companies surveyed around the world said they plan to retrain and upskill their employees between 2025 and 2030;
  • almost 70% of companies plan to hire new employees who have the skills to develop tools and improve AI;
  • 62% intend to hire more people who have the skills to work better with artificial intelligence.
  • 40% expect staff reductions where AI can automate tasks.”

What professions will AI replace in the next 5 years?

The increased use of artificial intelligence is bad news for clerical and secretarial workers, as well as those other administrative roles that automation could easily replace, as the report found that such positions are expected to see the steepest job declines over the next five years.

For whom AI is not a threat

The good news for those who cannot be replaced by computers is that they include: agricultural workers, delivery drivers, construction workers, salespeople, and food service workers. processing workers. There is also a significant increase in jobs in the care economy, including nurses, social workers, and personal care aides, in education.

The report says that IT professionals should develop skills in artificial intelligence, big data, or software development.

The WEF also predicts significant job growth in robotics, autonomous systems, and energy production, with professionals in fields such as renewable energy engineering and electric vehicle technology expected to have greater job security.

In addition, the WEF named the skills that will be in greatest demand, including : AI and big data, networking and cybersecurity, and general technological literacy.

“On average, workers can expect 39% of their existing skill sets to be transformed or rendered obsolete between 2025 and 2030,” the report says. However, this rate of “skills volatility” has slowed compared to previous editions of the report, from 44% in 2023 to 57% in 2020, when it was highest due to the pandemic.”
