Artificial intelligence engineer Jarrod Watts has created a modification for the CLI tool Claude Code that runs the game Doom while waiting for a response from the AI. You can play against other experts who are also waiting for a response from their AI agents.
The developer announced his project on the social network X (Twitter). According to him, the mod connects the programmer to a shared server, where all match participants are the same users waiting for their Claude to complete processing requests.
If Claude Code runs for more than two seconds, a Deathmatch window opens next to the terminal. Once the tool finishes generating, a three-second countdown begins, after which the game shuts down, displaying the final kill/death ratio (K/D) so the developer can get back to work. If the neural network needs human confirmation or permission, the game immediately shuts down.

Technically, the plugin is based on the Odamex port with Freedoom maps, which were left with bots and monsters so that the server never remains empty. To run the modification, you will need macOS 15 or later (on Apple Silicon or Intel processors), Ghostty or Kitty terminals with pixel display support, and Claude Code version 2.1.287 or later.
Anthropic previously introduced extensions called “mods” for its standalone Claude Code tool. These are small TypeScript functions that allow developers to change the GUI, edit queries, and completely customize the behavior of the AI agent to their own needs.
