Former Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov showed off one of the first Ukrainian jet interceptor drones, designed to combat new high-speed Russian UAVs. The device is capable of speeds of over 600 km/h and is already undergoing combat testing.
The former minister did not reveal the name of the drone and the company that developed it, only noting that he had recently visited its production facility. According to Fedorov, the interceptor has a jet engine, thanks to which it can reach speeds of over 600 km/h. The team is now awaiting the results of combat tests and the first confirmed downings.
According to Fedorov, over the course of a year, his team helped Ukrainian manufacturers develop such solutions: issued grants through Brave1, analyzed developments, and assisted with their testing.
"It is important not to stop. We need to invest in R&D, testing, and scaling up production. Our team continues to work systematically on it. Protecting Ukrainian skies remains one of the key areas of our strategy in the war," Fedorov said.
Back in March, Defense Ministry advisor Sergei “Flash” Beskrestnov warned that Russia would bet on speed and could switch to drones at 500–600 km/h, putting existing Ukrainian interceptors at risk of becoming ineffective. At the time, he urged manufacturers to start working on solutions against such targets.
Previously, dev.ua also wrote about the high-speed SPYS UAV interceptor with a speed of up to 600 km/h, developed by WIY Drones.
TAF Industries was "inspired" by its own FPV drone Kolibri when creating a new interceptor. What are the characteristics of the product, which has already received codification from the Ministry of Defense?
