In Poland, the director of the CEO Club Ukraine business community, Dmytro Karchuk, was detained on a European warrant from Germany on suspicion of stealing 171 electric bicycles worth 127,000 euros. The business club and the defense team emphasize that the suspicions are false, and the detention may be related to the use of the top manager’s personal data by third parties.
This was announced by CEO Club founder and president Serhiy Haydachuk on Facebook, and was also confirmed by the businessman’s colleagues and lawyers.
Karchuk was detained on July 28 at the Polish border. During a document check, the system showed that the Ukrainian top manager is wanted under a European arrest warrant issued by Germany. He is currently in a detention center in Przemyśl.
According to the German investigation, in September 2024, Karchuk allegedly personally drove a truck to a warehouse in Germany, used forged transport documents, exported 171 electric bicycles and failed to deliver them to their destination. The amount of damage in this case is estimated at 127,000 euros.
What is CEO Club Ukraine?
This is a private business club that brings together over 250 owners and managers of medium and large businesses, investors and entrepreneurs from various industries to exchange experiences, develop partnerships and network.
The business club is convinced that the community leader was not involved and suggests that the attackers used someone else’s personal data to register the cargo. According to Haydachuk, Karchuk has an indisputable alibi and was in Ukraine during the events described.
«There is a lot of evidence that Dmytro was in Ukraine at that time: from official data on border crossings, mobile operator billing, statements about deliveries and payments — to the testimonies of people he met during those days, supported by correspondence, photos and videos. Moreover, at that time he was undergoing rehabilitation after knee surgery, moving around on crutches. In addition, he does not have the appropriate category of rights to drive a truck,» said Haydachuk.
Karchuk’s interests are represented by the law firm Arzinger in cooperation with Polish and German lawyers. The Ukrainian consul has also been involved in the case and an appeal has been sent to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.
The Polish court is currently deciding only procedural issues regarding the execution of the European warrant and the possibility of transferring the detainee to Germany, without considering the merits of the case. The court has ordered a preventive measure in the form of detention for a period of up to 60 days. Lawyers are already appealing this decision, requesting release on bail or transfer on bail.
