Small and medium-sized business owners in Ukraine face a number of challenges every day. One of them is energy instability and constantly increasing tariffs. Thus, in 2025, another increase in electricity prices took place.
Currently, they are formed from tariffs for the distribution and transmission of electricity, its cost, and value-added tax. For example, the owner of the MAF in Kyiv pays at a tariff of 12 UAH/kW. The average consumption for the past months has fluctuated within 1000 kW. However, in the last month, we had to pay only for 550 kW of electricity — 6600 UAH, instead of the full amount of 12,000 UAH.
The business saved money thanks to the EcoFlow STREAM Ultra energy independence system and four stationary solar panels with a capacity of 400 W each. The innovative AI-based solution allows you to use free solar energy and optimize energy costs based on predicted electricity generation.
For example, immediately after installation, on the first day, solar generation was 6.5 kW. The maximum figure was 9 kW on a sunny day. Household consumers are also dependent on unstable electricity supply and rising prices. In 2025, 1 kW of electricity costs 4.32 UAH/kWh, and according to experts, this price will continue to grow. Therefore, using an alternative solution is an important issue for apartment dwellers and private households.
Over the past month, the EcoFlow STREAM Ultra energy supply system was tested in two apartments — in Kyiv and Bucha. To ensure electricity generation, two solar panels with a total capacity of 800 W were installed on the balconies in both locations.
The average electricity consumption in a Kyiv apartment with a single-zone meter is from 120 kW to 150 kW per month, depending on the season. Therefore, for more accurate results, the STREAM system was operated throughout May and June.
In May, solar generation provided up to 42% of the electricity consumed, and in June — 37% (this is due to an increase in electricity consumption). The placement of solar panels also affected the results of the experiment.
The most optimal direction for the location of solutions is south, and the angle of inclination is 30-35 degrees. You can try southeast and southwest orientation of the solar panels, however, the percentage of productivity will be lower.
However, even under the current conditions, saving up to 40% of electricity per month is a tangible result for a household consumer. In June, a Kyiv apartment consumed only 95 kW, which is equal to 410 hryvnias.
The average monthly electricity consumption in an apartment in the Kyiv region with a dual-zone meter is from 120 kW to 180 kW, and the monthly payment ranges from 480 to 600 hryvnias.
During the month of operation of two STREAM Ultra systems, it was possible to generate up to 73 kW of free electricity from the sun and only 46 kW had to be taken from the network to power household appliances. That is, more than 60% of the energy supply was provided by the sun itself. Therefore, the payment for electricity in June for consumers amounted to only 170 hryvnias.
For residents of private households, home solar power plants are advantageous due to the simpler placement of solar panels. Therefore, you can install four EcoFlow Solar Panels with a capacity of 400 W each in the yard yourself, and at any time adjust the most optimal angle of inclination for maximum generation.
Before the start of testing the two STREAM Ultra systems, the average daily consumption in the house was 11.5 kW, and during the two weeks of the experiment it decreased to 7.3 kW. Solar generation during this period provided 54.5 kW of energy. At current tariffs, the savings amounted to more than 35% in just half a month.
"In the case of energy supply for an apartment or house, it is worth understanding that STREAM Ultra is both a portable charging station in case of outages and a general system for reducing centralized consumption. At the same time, it costs less than traditional hybrid solar power plants, is mobile and easy to install," noted Anatoliy Hutsul, a journalist for the "Your Home" project.
