Former CEO of bankrupt German fintech platform Wirecard lives in Moscow and is participating in the war in Ukraine on the enemy's side: investigation

Former CEO of the German payment system Wirecard, Jan Marsalek, who is wanted by international law enforcement agencies, lives in Moscow and is involved in the war in Ukraine on the enemy side.

This is stated in the investigation of The Insider.

«Recently, Marsalek, initially recruited by the GRU, has increasingly been cooperating with the FSB and constantly appears at the Lubyanka. In addition, Marsalek regularly travels to the occupied territories of Ukraine to carry out combat missions accompanied by Russian special forces,» the publication notes.

The Insider recalls that a former top manager of Wirecard, recruited by Russian intelligence, fled to Moscow after a $2 billion hole was discovered in his company.

After moving to Russia, Marsalek changed several passports and his appearance — in particular, he had a hair transplant. At first, he used documents from real priests, so Marsalek grew a beard for the conspiracy.

The publication writes that after fleeing to Russia, Marsalek regularly appears in the occupied territories of Ukraine — not only in Crimea, but also in territories located in close proximity to the fighting.

Yes, his phone was tracked near areas where fighting was taking place, and the photos showed the former Wirecard manager in full military gear, including a balaclava and the letter «Z».

Marsalek also made no less than five trips to Crimea: each time his stay there lasted only a little more than a day, and among his fellow travelers were Russian special forces fighters.

The publication’s source in the Russian special services claims that Marsalek participated in combat missions, without specifying which ones. Marsalek himself, in a conversation with The Insider, refused to answer the question of what exactly connects him with the FSB today and what he is doing in Ukraine. «You understand, even if I knew something about all this, I could not talk to you about it,» he explained.

Recall that Wirecard AG was engaged in payment processing, and in June 2020 the company was declared bankrupt. At the same time, the company was represented on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange and was included in the DAX index. In 2019, an audit revealed a deficit of 1.9 billion euros in Wirecard.

As dev.ua wrote, the SBU previously detained an FSB «mole» at a defense plant. The engineer was planning to steal new developments of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
