Ukrainian miltech company Fire Point has found an unconventional way to combat the effects of low temperatures on the electronic components of drones. To protect sensitive elements of the equipment, specialists use ordinary lard.
Company representatives announced this on their official pages on social networks.
According to the developers, at temperatures around −20 °C, severe frost leads to freezing of drone cameras and cables, and also accelerates the discharge of batteries. To prevent drones from malfunctioning in extreme winter conditions, a layer of fat is applied to sensitive components, which acts as a protective barrier against the cold.
“What’s the trick to rocket science? The best solution isn’t always the most complicated. Sometimes it’s just lard. Smart engineering isn’t about overcomplicating things, it’s about knowing what works,” Fire Point noted.
