By the end of this year, First Contact expects to fully complete the development of the VAL-1 underwater drone and begin its combat use.
This was announced by the company’s founder Valeriy Borovyk in a comment to dev.ua during IT Arena 2025.
«We hope that this will happen by the end of the year. There should only be normal range testing, we also need to work out the inertial system. I can’t reveal everything, but it is 90% ready,» Borovyk noted.
The VAL-1 is a kamikaze unmanned maritime strike drone that operates without a crew and acts as a transport platform for delivering a warhead to a target. It is designed to destroy enemy targets by self-destructing along with the delivered warhead.
The drone’s specifications are listed on the manufacturer’s website.

Previously, the media reported that it was the Osa kamikaze drones from the First Contact company that were likely used during the SBU operation against strategic Russian air bases.
