Phishing attack on behalf of Nova Poshta: scammers send letters about "tax audits"

Nova Poshta is warning of a new wave of phishing attacks on behalf of the company. Cybercriminals are sending fake messages claiming to have "reporting discrepancies" and threatening tax audits.

"These letters have no relation to Nova Poshta or any other company in the NOVA group," the company emphasized .

The scammers base their scheme on intimidation and artificial haste. Using fear manipulation, they write about fictitious errors allegedly discovered during a financial audit and create an artificial sense of urgency, pressuring the recipient to immediately resolve the “problem.” In addition, the scammers force the recipient to open the attached file to make supposedly necessary “corrections,” which can actually lead to infection of the device or theft of personal data.

The company also reminded of some security rules to avoid falling for scammers.

  • Check the sender's address. Letters from Nova Poshta only come from official domains. Pay attention to suspicious changes or spelling errors.
  • Do not open emails from unknown senders and do not click on links.
  • If you have opened a suspicious attachment or clicked on a questionable link, it is advisable to change the passwords on your accounts as soon as possible and check if you have any other active sessions. If you detect suspicious activity, end all unknown sessions through the security settings of your accounts.
  • Enable two-factor authentication for email, instant messengers, banking, and other important accounts — this significantly increases protection against unauthorized access.
  • If you receive such an email, please move it to spam and delete it. This will help reduce the risk of repeated sending and protect other users.

"The cybersecurity unit of Nova Poshta is already working to stop this phishing campaign and is interacting with relevant services and providers to limit the activities of fraudsters," the company noted.
