Beskrestnov reported this on his Telegram channel.
According to him, before the appointment, he had a long conversation with President Volodymyr Zelensky about the technological challenges of war, which, in his opinion, are «becoming increasingly complex.»
Beskrestnov said that the president offered him to return to the new composition of the Ministry of Defense, but he refused.
«I am a member of Fedorov’s team, I came to the Ministry of Defense at his invitation as his personal advisor and, for moral reasons, I cannot remain at the Ministry of Defense without Mikhail,» he wrote.
At the same time, he stressed that he respects former Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov and will continue to assist him in matters of Ukraine’s defense. «Fedorov is a person whom I have immense respect for, and I will continue to assist him as much as possible in matters of defense of our country and beyond,» Beskrestnov noted.
At the same time, he said, he cannot remain on the sidelines during a war, so he agreed to work in the Office of the President. «The President gives me the opportunity and authority to strengthen our defense capabilities at the highest level in the position of Advisor to the President on Defense Technology Development,» he said.
Beskrestnov also emphasized that he does not consider the new position as political. «For me, this is not related to politics, for me it is an opportunity to influence technological processes in the defense sector, and now not only in the Armed Forces of Ukraine,» he wrote, thanking the president for his trust.
As a reminder, Sergey Beskrestnov was a personal advisor to Mikhail Fedorov at the Ministry of Defense. After Fedorov’s resignation, he announced his termination of work at the ministry, explaining this by the fact that he came to the team at his invitation.
Mykhailo Fedorov announced that he is leaving the post of Minister of Defense of Ukraine and published a farewell post in which he summed up his work. According to him, during his tenure, the team managed to implement a number of reforms and projects in the field of defense technologies, procurement, international cooperation, and the development of the Ukrainian defense industry.
