French startup to deploy "drone wall" in Ukraine to protect against "shaheeds" and "KABs"
The Wall consists of dozens of small UAVs designed to intercept the most threatening Russian weapons, including suicide drones and guided aerial bombs (GABs), before they reach their targets. The system is expected to be operational within weeks.
The Wall consists of dozens of small UAVs designed to intercept the most threatening Russian weapons, including suicide drones and guided aerial bombs (GABs), before they reach their targets. The system is expected to be operational within weeks.
As Business Insider reports, the "wall of drones" was developed by the French company Atreyd, which has already sent an innovative air defense system to Ukraine.
According to the founder of Atreyd (who wished to remain anonymous), the system is a “flying minefield of drones” and is intended to be the last line of defense. Initially, the system will be used to protect cities and critical infrastructure from Russian Shahed strike drones. In the future, it could be deployed closer to the front to counter guided aerial bombs (GABs), which are extremely difficult to intercept.
The “drone wall” consists of a set of FPV drones that take off from ground-based launch pads after radar detects a threat. These drones, armed with small explosive charges, form a “curtain” in the sky. The system’s task is to detonate its components near the target to neutralize the threat.
Key features of the “drone wall”:
AI: AI changes the structure of the "wall" to optimally respond to the detected trajectory of an enemy munition.
Low cost: The cost of an interception is only a few thousand dollars. Drones that do not detonate can be returned to platforms for reuse.
Resistance to electronic warfare: The system can operate in conditions of GPS signal suppression, as it is equipped with a pre-installed 3D map of the area of responsibility.
Ease of control: One soldier can control 100 drones without specific qualifications or experience in piloting UAVs.
Safety: Drones are equipped with identification technology to prevent “friendly fire” incidents.
The founder of Atreyd is confident in the effectiveness of the system, despite the fact that Russia has begun to modify its drones and "KABs" with jet engines that increase their speed. During testing, the "wall of drones" demonstrated 100% success.
Recall that the American drone manufacturer Neros is expanding its office in Kyiv to increase production by attracting $75 million in investment.
NABU and SAPO directed UAH 44 million from agreements with the investigation to FPV drones for the Armed Forces of Ukraine: the decision was approved by the Supreme Court of Ukraine
