The update has already begun rolling out to Business, Enterprise, Education, and Google AI Pro accounts, Neowin reports .
To add a comment using Gemini, simply ask the AI to pay attention to specific sections—for example, to check launch statistics or to read all the text across all sections for tone. The same goes for replies. Just ask Gemini to reply to a colleague, for example, to confirm launch dates or to add links to recent presentations saved in Google Docs.
You can also ask Gemini to provide a concise overview of all open discussions in a long document by sending a request like "show me the latest comments" or "what are the main issues raised by the comments?".
Google clarified: the feature works by default only when the admin has enabled Gemini for Workspace in Google Drive, and the smart features of Workspace (Smart Features) are activated. Also, editing rights are required to work with the assistant. If the admin restricts access for the domain, the bottom action bar and tips for comments in files simply will not appear.
To enable Google Workspace smart features on your computer, first open gmail.com in your browser, click the gear icon in the top right corner, select "See all settings," and then find the "Smart features and personalization" section under the "General" tab. Check the box to enable smart features in Gmail and Chat, then scroll to the bottom of the page and click "Save changes."
