Google allowed AI Mode to use data from Gmail and Google Photos in search

Google’s search AI Mode has been given a Personal Intelligence feature that allows it to generate answers based on data from Gmail and Google Photos. The company says this should make recommendations more accurate and useful for a particular user.
In the first paragraph of the body, Google says, according to TechCrunch, the new feature has already begun rolling out to AI Mode for Google AI Pro and AI Ultra subscribers in the U.S. The feature is available in English and is enabled only with user consent.
Personal Intelligence allows AI Mode to access information from email and photo archives to build personalized responses instead of generic lists of advice. For example, when planning a trip, the system can take into account hotel reservations from Gmail and previous trips recorded in Photos to suggest an itinerary and entertainment that match the family’s habits. The same applies to shopping scenarios: AI Mode can select items based on brands that the user has previously purchased, as well as the dates and locations of the trip.
Google emphasizes that the new feature does not mean full access to personal data for AI. The model is not trained directly on the contents of the mailbox or photo library. It uses only the specific signals needed to answer the query, and the user can turn off personalization at any time.
The company positions Personal Intelligence as a competitive advantage, as AI Mode is integrated into the broad ecosystem of Google services that users have long used every day.
Google is gradually rebuilding search in the direction of a conversational interface. After the launch of AI Overviews, the company began testing AI Mode, a separate mode designed for complex scenarios where the user is not interested in a short answer, but in the logic of the choice. Integration with Gmail and Google Photos makes AI Mode part of an ecosystem of personal services, where search is based not only on web data, but also on the context of the user’s life.
Previously, dev.ua wrote about how Google launched new agent capabilities in AI Mode — its feature that allows users to ask complex questions and additional queries to explore a specific topic directly in Search.
Як нейромережі бачать вільну та незалежну Україну? Тест dev.ua
