Google integrates AI agent for vibecoding Jules into developer workspaces

The AI agent is now available not only through the web interface, but also through the command line and API. This should simplify the work of programmers and reduce context switching.
Google has announced updates to Jules Tools, a command-line interface (CLI) and public API that allow it to be integrated directly into developers' workspaces. Previously, Jules was only available through a web interface and GitHub, according to TechCrunch.
Now developers will be able to run the agent directly from the terminal, CI/CD, or Slack without switching between interfaces.
According to Katie Korevets, a product director at Google Labs, the goal is to minimize “context switching” for developers and make Jules more “transparent” in workflows.
The CLI allows developers to interact with the agent using commands and streamline workflows, eliminating the need to switch between the web interface and GitHub. This allows them to stay in their environment and delegate coding tasks.
Jules and Gemini CLI use the Gemini 2.5 Pro model, but with different approaches. Jules is focused on “specific tasks,” while Gemini CLI is focused on more interactive collaboration with the agent.
In addition to the CLI, Google has opened up the Jules API for integration into IDEs and other tools. The company plans to develop plugins for the most popular environments.
The Jules AI assistant was first introduced in December 2024 as a “trusted automated programming assistant” that can manage a wide range of time-consuming tasks on behalf of users.
After two months of closed testing, Google has released the release version of its asynchronous AI assistant, which has received new features, including reusing previous settings to complete tasks faster, integration with GitHub issues, and support for multimodal input.
