Google is testing advertising in AI Mode

SEO consultant Brody Clark noticed that Google is inserting ads into search results in an AI-powered mode powered by Gemini. These ads appear at the bottom of the search results. They are labeled as “sponsored” content, but otherwise look similar to other links generated by the chatbot.
Despite Clark's statement that this is a "first," a Google spokesperson claims that the result shown is similar to similar tests the company has conducted throughout this year, Engadget writes .
The time has come. Google is now showing ads within AI Mode for the first time ever.
Similar to the ads that I had originally spotted showing within AI overviews earlier this year, the placement is at the bottom of the response.
“The fact that people are noticing ads in AI mode is just one element of Google’s ongoing tests, which have been going on for several months,” a company spokesperson explained. The intention to start placing ads in AI mode was announced back in May. The company also assured that it does not plan to fully transfer AI mode to an advertising model at this time.
Coincidentally or not, there doesn't seem to be any way to hide the aforementioned sponsored links. In regular Google Search, users can hide the ad results after scrolling through them.
