A global shortage of memory chips is affecting the availability of Apple's most popular Mac models.
This was reported by Mark Gurman, a technology journalist at Bloomberg and an insider specializing in covering Apple's activities.
Gurman said that shortages caused by high demand from artificial intelligence have already affected Apple's niche computers, the Mac mini and Mac Studio. However, the company now appears to be struggling with the availability of the MacBook Air, with retailers reporting that supplies are tighter than ever.
When trying to buy a MacBook Air on the official Apple website, the waiting period is until the second half of August, and for some configurations, until September.
According to Gurman, Apple is trying to solve the problem by raising prices and purchasing memory from Chinese suppliers. In the meantime, the company has postponed its traditional promotion until the beginning of the school year, which usually starts in June. In addition, for the first time, marketing materials are more focused on the base model MacBook Pro. They even have a disclaimer: "MacBook Air - subject to availability."
