The occupiers developed this modification as a countermeasure against Ukrainian interceptor drones.
On the eve of the launch into mass production, which was completed by January 2026, the occupiers conducted test launches of the Gerani-4 from the territory of the former Donetsk airport, as well as from the Primorsk drone port in the Oryol region. Already in May 2026, the invaders switched to the combat use of these drones for attacks on Ukraine, GUR reports .
Unlike the previous version of the Geran-3, where the occupiers used the glider of a conventional Geran-2 gasoline drone, the new modification has undergone serious design changes.
"The Geran-4 jet UAV has its own new airframe with improved aerodynamic quality, reinforced design, and a turbojet engine with increased thrust. The wings are now not disconnected from the center section. To reduce air resistance, the number of technological hatches on the hull has been reduced," the intelligence report says.
The design of the Geran-4 UAV has recorded the use of two modifications of Chinese turbojet engines. The first is the discontinued Telefly LX-WP-160 (with a thrust of 160 kg/1600 N). The second is the more powerful Telefly TF-TJ2000A power plant (with a thrust of 200 kgf/1960 N), which the occupiers also integrate into the Geran-5 UAVs. Thanks to the updated airframe and reinforced design, the Geran-4 is capable of performing active maneuvers at speeds from 300 to 400 km/h, while withstanding critical overloads.
Thanks to the updated design, the Geran-4 is capable of accelerating to 500 km/h and climbing to an altitude of up to 5,000 meters. The maximum flight range of the drone is 450 kilometers. Depending on the mission, the UAV is equipped with either a 50-kilogram high-explosive fragmentation/thermobaric warhead (OFZBCH-50/TBBCH-50M) or a reinforced thermobaric charge TBBCH-90 weighing 90 kg.
At the same time, the dimensions of the aircraft remained standard - 3.5 meters long and 3 meters wide (wingspan). The electronic content and onboard control system of the new drone are completely identical to previous models of drones produced by the Russian JSC "OEZ PPT "Alabuga".
