American billionaire Elon Musk publicly supported US President Donald Trump's statements about the need for a change of leadership in Ukraine and stated that Volodymyr Zelenskyy "has gone too far."
The businessman's statements came after Trump criticized Ukrainian strikes on Russian oil refineries amid a controversial bilateral agreement with Vladimir Putin on the supply of diesel fuel. On his social network X (Twitter), Musk commented on a post with Trump's statement , in which he demanded that Ukraine stop strikes on Russian oil infrastructure.
Trump remarked, “You can do whatever you want with Russia, but don’t hit the refineries, because that’s a global problem. What is he doing? He goes and hits the diesel fuel supply. He better fucking stop it.” In response, Musk said, “Zelensky has gone too far,” and later added in another comment, “I agree, it’s time for Ukraine to get a new leader.”
Many X users criticized Musk's statement and noted that oil and fuel prices began to rise after the US attack on Iran and the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, and not because of Ukrainian strikes on Russian refineries. And Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga stated that only the Ukrainian people have the legitimate and sovereign authority to determine the leadership of their country, especially in times of war.
After Donald Trump's election victory, Musk gained significant influence by heading the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). Despite a public conflict in June 2025 over a budget bill that threatened to cancel government contracts for SpaceX and Tesla, in 2026 Musk again began to actively synchronize his actions and rhetoric with the White House. In particular, the billionaire recently supported Trump's demand to replace the term "artificial intelligence" with "superintelligence" and decided to rename the SpaceXAI division to SpaceXSI.
