The new font is a kind of hybrid of cursive and block letters, writes The Verge. Many users have already noted that the updated inscription has become less readable than its predecessor, and the letter "r" is now too similar to a "z", which is why the name is read as "Instagzam".
The changes were officially announced by Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri: "The text logo at the top of the app hasn't changed in 10 years, so it's time for an update. It's cleaner and more modern, but at the same time it references the originality, simplicity, and craftsmanship that have always distinguished Instagram."
Mosseri clearly anticipated that the design would be controversial, so he simultaneously posted an announcement on Threads to "gather the hottest reviews."
The reaction was swift. Some users miss the iconic cursive logo that became a symbol of the social network era. Social networks were also flooded with memes and comments that the brand had accidentally renamed itself “Instagzam.” The rest of the comments consisted of enthusiastic emojis and templated praise that many observers found suspiciously similar to the work of bots.
