Engineer creates Terminator-style robotic rifle based on ChatGPT: development attracts OpenAI's attention
An engineer by the name STS 3D has caused a stir online with a video in which he unveiled a robotic rifle powered by ChatGPT. The device can respond to voice commands and fire with extreme accuracy and speed.
An engineer by the name STS 3D has caused a stir online with a video in which he unveiled a robotic rifle powered by ChatGPT. The device can respond to voice commands and fire with extreme accuracy and speed.
The invention quickly caught the attention of OpenAI, which blocked STS 3D from accessing its services. The company confirmed that such use of its Realtime API violates its policy, which prohibits the development or use of weapons or automation that could threaten personal safety, Futurism writes .
The automatic rifle paints a disturbing picture of a future in which AI-based weapon systems can be used to kill opponents without human intervention.
In the video, STS 3D demonstrated the rifle's capabilities by giving it a command to respond to an "attack" from various directions. The AI system quickly followed the command, aiming and firing blank shots at the designated targets.
OpenAI prohibits anyone from using the service “to harm themselves or others,” including the development or “use of weapons.”
But the military can develop such deadly gadgets. For example, last year, a US defense contractor demonstrated a robotic machine gun with artificial intelligence that can fire bullets from a rotating turret autonomously.
“My 11-year-old sister can’t count how many seconds are in 3 minutes without ChatGPT,” complains an older brother on Reddit. How do parents react to this?
