“I was walking around the rooms with Poppy and found an earphone.” How a Wix engineer found his lost AirPods with Claude and his own utility
Senior Software Engineer at Wix, Denys Dovhan, shared a case study of the use of artificial intelligence in everyday life. When his wife went on vacation and accidentally left one of her AirPods at home, the standard search through the Find My app was unavailable because the gadget was tied to her account.
To solve the problem, the developer decided to write a special utility for scanning the Bluetooth range, using the AI agent Claude as an assistant.

To solve the problem, the developer decided to write a special utility for scanning the Bluetooth range, using the AI agent Claude as an assistant.
«I asked the agent to write a utility that scans the Bluetooth range using the Bleak library and outputs a list of all devices: a scale with signal strength, approximate distance, identifier, and possible name. I immediately marked my devices in gray, and asked the most suspicious ones to be highlighted in yellow, because Apple devices have a characteristic code in their identifiers,» says Denys.
Using this program and a MacBook laptop, the developer walked around the rooms and eventually found the lost earphone in a shorts pocket among the clothes.
Technical details and working with AI
According to the engineer, it took about 20 minutes to create a fully working code. Two prompts were enough to get the basic functionality, and about four more iterations were needed to calibrate the interface to our own needs.
The basis for the solution was the popular Python library Bleak: «It implements almost all the functionality I needed. In addition, Bleak is already quite stable and popular and is used in such well-known projects as Home Assistant to interact with BLE devices.»
Why a native utility on Mac turned out to be more effective than mobile apps
Despite the fact that there are many similar applications for finding Bluetooth devices in the App Store, the developer was unable to find the headset using a smartphone. The decision to create a tool specifically for macOS justified itself from a hardware point of view.
«I even tried using ready-made mobile applications, but I couldn’t find the earphone with them. That’s why I made my own utility on a Mac, because the laptop has a physically larger antenna and is more sensitive to devices, so it was easier to find the lost AirPods with it,» explained Denys Dovhan.
The developer does not plan to publish the source code on GitHub, noting that the program consists of literally 20 lines of code — initializing the Bleak library, subscribing to events, and formatting the results.
