Two residents of the village of Lymanske, Odessa region, tried to pull off a fraudulent scheme involving the substitution of an iPhone at the post office, which was seen in the videoon TikTok.
At the end of February 2025, two brothers came up with a fraudulent scheme: to order an iPhone on the website of the COMFY chain of stores to the post office, while indicating false recipient details. While receiving the order, one man was supposed to distract the postal worker, and the second was to replace the parcels with mobile phones with pre-prepared boxes with plasticine inside.
The following month, the scammers decided to implement their plan . The men ordered two iPhone 14s for two separate fake individuals, worth UAH 33,000 and UAH 26,538. The packages arrived at the local Ukrposhta branch on March 3. Acting according to the plan, the men swapped the phones, justifying the refusal of the packages by the fact that the store mixed up the order and sent the wrong model phone.
Thus, the men caused material damage to Ukrposhta, which, in accordance with the public contract for the provision of services for organizing the transportation of shipments, bears material liability for the safety and loss of the shipment, in the amount of UAH 33,000 and UAH 26,538.
As it turned out, the brothers saw such a fraudulent scheme on TikTok. The younger brother suggested that the older one try it, and the older one agreed. As a result, the first was detained, the second is wanted. The police exposed them on the same day.
In June, the younger brother was tried. But the sentence was mitigated due to his young age, lack of previous convictions, remorse for the crime, and assistance in solving criminal offenses. The phones were also returned. So the court assigned the man a year of probation.
A woman in Lviv was selling her iPhone 15 Pro Max, but instead of UAH 46,000 she received souvenir dollars with the inscription "it's not the money it's a joke"
