In a comment to dev.ua, KageSec Lead Dev Retr0 said that the project emerged as a response to a systemic crisis in digital privacy. «In 2026, personal data has become a commodity, and surveillance has become the norm,» said Retr0.
The KageSec group is an independent association of developers and security researchers who aim to «return control of the digital environment to the end user.» The team consists of participants from various countries, including Ukraine, European countries, and other regions.
«We are not tied to a specific location, as the project’s ideology is based on network freedom and decentralization. This allows us to attract the best talents regardless of their place of residence,» KageSec claims.
Most of the group’s communication and development takes place in encrypted channels, ensuring the anonymity and security of each contributor. KageSec operates as a decentralized organization with a clear hierarchy based on proof of contribution:

Members: Active participants involved in module development, decentralized network support, and security testing.
Candidates: New participants who are being vetted through specialized anonymous gateways.
«We use automated access rights management systems and custom bot filters to maintain operational security within the group. Communication between participants is carried out via secure P2P channels, which excludes centralized log storage,» explained Retr0.
KageSec says they are not just creating an operating system; they are creating «an ecosystem of digital immunity, where anonymity and security are fundamental architectural features.»

The main emphasis in the development of KageOS is on preventive protection. Unlike classic security systems, KageOS uses eBPF technology to monitor system calls directly in the context of the kernel, the developers note.
This allows you to block suspicious activity before it affects user data. The integrated lightweight AI core analyzes process behavior in real time, detecting anomalies and attempts to exploit vulnerabilities.
The project is currently in the component integration stage. The transition from closed prototyping to the formation of a broad community is planned for 2026. In the coming quarters, the release of the alpha version of the KageSecurity module and the launch of a public recruitment program for development and research specialists are planned.
«The main task is to create an autonomous digital space, protected from external interference from corporations and providers,» noted Retr0.
