"What the hell can a COFFEE MAKER transmit?" Smart coffee maker created 1 TB of traffic and overloaded home Wi-Fi

An IT professional noticed unusual activity on his parents' home network: a smart coffee maker had transferred nearly a terabyte of data over ten days. The device was so busy exchanging data that it overloaded the Wi-Fi access point on its own.

A user under the nickname Nomad, who calls himself an IT specialist, told X.

"Hey Keurig, what the hell can a COFFEE MAKER be transmitting? Wait, let me check again... A WHOLE TERABYTE OF DATA IN 10 DAYS?! I'll unplug it immediately. And I'll buy my parents a new coffee maker," the IT guy wrote.

However, when Nomad looked more closely at the statistics, it turned out that the coffee maker was indeed generating a huge amount of traffic, but most of this data was circulating locally, without reaching the Internet. What exactly the device was doing remained a mystery. The IT specialist suggested that the cause could be a software glitch. According to the IT specialist, restarting the coffee maker fixed the problem. Therefore, it was not possible to establish for sure what caused the abnormal traffic.

Previously, dev.ua wrote about a similar case with an LG washing machine. An American IT specialist noticed that his device was using 3.6 GB of data every day.
