Nvidia CEO celebrated Lunar New Year in Taiwan instead of attending Trump's inauguration

Many technology leaders came to the ceremony to welcome new US President Donald Trump, but Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, who was vacationing in Taiwan, was not among them.
While already in Taiwan, Huang warned that he would not be at Donald Trump’s inauguration because he would be celebrating the Lunar New Year with his employees, Business Insider reported.
«The year-end party is very important to us because the staff work so hard, and it’s my opportunity to thank everyone,» said Huang, referring to the Lunar New Year (also known as Chinese New Year), which falls in January/February.
Huang also told reporters that he has not yet spoken to the new Trump administration, but is looking forward to welcoming the team. The inauguration ceremonies were attended by such tech industry leaders as Elon Musk, Amazon’s Jeff Bezos, Meta’s Mark Zuckerberg, Apple’s Tim Cook, Google’s Sundar Pichai and TikTok’s Shaw Chu.
Huang previously said he had not yet met Trump but would be «glad» to receive an invitation to visit Mar-a-Lago, Trump’s Palm Beach resort.

During his visit to Taiwan, Huang attended year-end parties at Nvidia and Wistron, a Taiwanese supplier. He also had lunch with technology leaders, including TSMC Chairman S.S. Wei and Foxconn Chairman Yang Liu, and stressed Taiwan’s key role in supplying technology amid tense relations with Beijing, which claims the island as its territory.
Taiwanese native Huang, who is considered a «homeboy» and has achieved success, has become a real star in his country. This popularity phenomenon has even earned its own name, «Jensenity.» During a visit to the island in June, Jensen Huang was greeted like a rock star and even signed one woman’s chest. For Halloween, Taiwanese children dress up as Huang, who is known for his love of leather jackets.
Nvidia is now one of the most valuable companies in the world, with a market capitalization of $3.4 trillion. Huang is the 12th richest person in the world, with a fortune estimated at $117 billion by the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.
Nvidia CEO’s statement that quantum computing won’t be profitable anytime soon sent shares in the sector down 40%. But the company itself is already preparing for a quantum future.
