«To make it clear how serious everything is, more than 90,000 people from all over the world participated in the competition and about 10,000 teams created projects. About 1,000 projects were evaluated directly by NASA. And among them, our team won!», Roman Malkevych, Local Lead at NASA International Space Apps Challenge Kyiv, reported on his Facebook page.
As noted on the NASA International Space Apps Challenge website, the Ukrainian team is working on a solution that will allow assessing conditions for sowing plants and has applied value in the agricultural sector.
«Farmers face water-related challenges due to unpredictable weather, pests, and diseases. These factors can significantly impact crops, their profits, and food security. Depending on geography, many farmers may face droughts or floods—sometimes both extremes occur in the same season! Your task is to develop a tool that will allow farmers to easily explore, analyze, and use NASA datasets to address these water-related challenges and direct them to improve farming practices,» the hackathon organizers explain the mission of the Ukrainian project.
Let us remind you that this is not the first success of Ukrainians — previously, a team of Ukrainian specialists Storm Prophet beat 58,000 participants around the world and won the NASA Space Apps Challenge hackathon, which was held in October 2023.
