This was reported by The New York Times, citing sources familiar with classified American intelligence materials.
At the center of the story is Alice Huang (also known as Huang Le), a former top manager at Megaspeed, a Singaporean data center company that buys Nvidia equipment. Initially, American services became interested in her because of suspicions that Megaspeed could help Chinese companies circumvent the US ban on the supply of advanced AI chips.
It turned out that Alice Huang regularly met with Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, including at business dinners. They were even photographed together on several occasions.
According to the NYT, US officials concluded that Alice Huang was passing information to Beijing. The situation was complicated by the fact that Nvidia was an important participant in trade negotiations between the US and China. According to the NYT sources, Trump did not want to harm the company's sales and aggravate relations with Beijing.
It is not known for certain why the Nvidia CEO was not directly informed of the possible threat. One explanation is that such a warning could have revealed the fact that Alice Huang was being monitored.
Nvidia denies that Jensen Huang's communication with Alice Huang was unusually close. A company representative explained that the CEO meets with thousands of CEOs of client companies every year. And Jensen Huang himself stated that Nvidia checked the use of its graphics processors by Megaspeed and did not find any illegal resale of chips to China.
Previously, dev.ua wrote that an Nvidia employee was detained in Taiwan on suspicion of involvement in the smuggling of AI chips to China.
