Ukrainian price tracking service Lume released a mobile web application PWA and changed its architecture

The developer of the Ukrainian non-profit project Lume, which helps to monitor changes in product prices and find discounts, has introduced a mobile web application in the PWA (Progressive Web App) format. The new solution allows users to install the service on the home screen of their smartphone without downloading from marketplaces.

The author of the project, Maksym Gorbachev, spoke about this in a post on Reddit.

According to him, the decision to launch a PWA instead of developing separate native applications for iOS and Android and expanding the line of plugins for different browsers is due to the limited resources of the project. PWA allows you to instantly update the functionality without going through lengthy reviews in the App Store and Google Play, and also provides support for push notifications. To fully use the mobile version, authorization via Google, Telegram or email is required.

In parallel, Lume underwent technical transformations. Due to the increasing load, the developer switched the database from SQLite to PostgreSQL, as the previous database had difficulties even when loading more than 100 simultaneous users. Lume also updated the browser plugin, launched a page with price history for the most popular products, and created a separate Telegram channel with digests of the most profitable offers.

Recall, in May, Ukrainian Maksym Gorbachev introduced the Lume browser extension, which helps users avoid fake discounts and find the best deals in online stores. The tool automatically plots a graph of product price changes directly on the pages of Rozetka, Comfy, Epicenter and other retailers, offering cheaper alternatives. The developers' immediate plans include expanding discount notification channels, including integration with Viber.
